criterion b/2

Criterion B

The IT system that is used is not that sophisticated, the Software is written to keep track on the things that the employee are looking at on the computer screen. It is specifically made for this scenario, where the manager wants to observe what his employee’s are working on and what his employees are looking at in their computer, since the computer could be used for a number of different purposes. The main purpose for this software is to allow the manager to observe what his employees are doing.

This software is linked to the Network that is used in the office (which is linked to all the computers in the office or building, look at figure 1), so the software will be transmitting the information from the employee’s work office (what he is looking at) to the manager in charge of keeping track of the employee’s work. The software is very sneaky in withholding the information on the employee screen, because it hacks into the computer and with these following methods; Packet sniffers, Log files, Desktop monitoring programs, Closed-circuit cameras, they could instantly observe what the employee is doing(look at figure 1). Some of the names that are given to these programs consist of Shadow, SpyAgent, Web Sleuth and Silent Watch.

Criterion A/2

The fact is that in our current society people have been abusing their technological privileges, specifically E-mail and the internet. This is particularly aimed at businesses which come from a range of private or public companies; the employees in our current society have been abusing the technology to access their private E-mail for personal purposes, accessing the internet for shopping online, and entering unethical websites like dating pages, from a Business’ point of view this should be a clear burden since these companies could be working for a ethical purpose plus if that is not the case then the employee’s should not be getting paid for these actions. This is a problem which has to be addressed from the higher ups (predominantly CEO’s) and the results are that the managers now have the right to access employee files and spy on their work

This problem addresses the social and ethical issues of Privacy and Productivity. The Privacy is being addressed to the Mangers who are doing all of the surveillance, and the fact is that the companies are abusing the privacy of others. The reason from this is that companies are deliberately attacking the privacy of their employees so that they could get more productivity from their employees, by force. Although the businesses are doing this, this could be a downfall for businesses because this technology will affect the well-being of an employee when working since he is being monitored and rubbed from his privacy, this will also cause discomfort for the employee.
